Marie-Claude Thifault est la directrice de l’Unité. Historienne spécialiste des institutions psychiatriques québécoises et canadiennes et des soins de santé mentale, elle est professeure titulaire à l’École des sciences infirmières de la Faculté des sciences de la santé de l’Université d’Ottawa et titulaire de la Chaire de recherche sur la francophonie canadienne en santé. psychiatriques. Elle est également codirectrice de la Collection « 21^e – Société, histoire et culture » aux Presses de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Dr. Marie-Claude Thifault, a historian specializing in the history of psychiatric institutions and mental health care in Quebec and Canada, is a full professor in the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences. She has also been named University of Ottawa Research Chair in health and the Canadian francophonie. As the director of the Unit, Professor Thifault makes a significant contribution to the history of nursing and the history of psychiatric nursing.

Sandra Harrisson est directrice adjointe de l’Unité et professeure adjointe à l’École des sciences infirmières de la Faculté des sciences de la santé de l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle est également présidente de l’Association canadienne pour l’histoire du nursing (ACHN-CAHN).

Sandra Harrisson is assitant director of the Unit and assistant professor in the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences. She is also president of the Canadian Association for the History of Nursing.

Alexandre Klein est le coordonnateur de l’Unité. Historien et philosophe des sciences, il est spécialisé dans l’histoire de la santé à l’époque contemporaine et travaille depuis plusieurs années maintenant sur l’histoire des infirmières psychiatriques québécoises. Il est également le créateur du réseau de recherche Historien.ne.s de la santé.

Alexandre Klein is the research facilitator of the Unit. Historian and philosopher of science, he specializes in contemporary history of health and has worked for several years now on the history of Quebec psychiatric nurses. He is also the founder of the international network Historien.ne.s de la santé.

Jayne Elliott fut coordonnatrice de l’Unité, elle en est maintenant membre senior de recherche er professeure associée. Ses recherches doctorales portaient sur l’histoire de des hôpitaux de la Croix-Rouge en Ontario. Elle a ensuite travaillé sur l’histoire des hôpitaux et du nursing ruraux. Elle explore actuellement les expériences des médecins qui ont pris soin des troupes canadiennes en Allemagne au début de la période de la Guerre froide.

The former administrator of the NHRU, Jayne Elliott now holds the position of senior research member and adjunct professor in the Unit.  Her doctoral research investigated the history of the Red Cross outpost hospitals in Ontario, and subsequent research interests focused on the history of rural hospitals and rural and remote nursing. She is currently exploring the experiences of physicians who cared for Canadian troops in Germany during the early Cold War period.

Alessandra Iozzo-Duval est chercheuse postdoctorale AMS à l’Unité et spécialiste en pédagogie. Historienne, elle enseigne également à l’Université d’Ottawa et à l’Université Carleton.

Alessandra Iozzo-Duval is a historian and an AMS postdoctoral researcher at the Unit, specializing in pedagogy. She is also teaching at both University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

Geneviève McCready est professeure substitut à l’Université du Québec à Rimouski et candidate au doctorat en sciences infirmières à l’Université d’Ottawa.

Carl Jacob est diplomé en éducation (PhD) et professeur associé à l’Unité et à l’École des sciences infirmières de l,Université d’Ottawa. En plus d’écrire sur l’expérience des médecins homosexuels prenant soin de patients homosexuels vivant avec le VIH et sur un cadre pour les soins palliatifs au Canada, il a écrit sur le leadership, l’excellence professionnelle, le stress et la résilience, l’évaluation des animateurs, ainsi que sur la diversité et l’inclusion (LGBTQIA + ) dans les Forces armées canadiennes, il écrit actuellement un rapport sur les soins palliatifs pour les peuples autochtones au Canada.

Dr. Carl Jacob is attached to the University of Ottawa’s Nursing History Research Unit (NHRU) as an auxiliary professor and the Nursing Department as an adjunct professor. He received his PhD in Education (interdisciplinary: Education, Medicine, and Sexology) from the University of Quebec in Montreal. In addition to writing on the experiential learning of gay physicians caring for gay HIV+ patients, and a framework for palliative care in Canada, he has written on leadership, professional excellence, stress and resilience, facilitator evaluation, as well as diversity and inclusion (LGBTQIA+) in the Canadian Armed Forces. He is presently writing a report on palliative care for Indigenous peoples in Canada. He was research assistant at the University of Quebec in Montreal specializing in educational collaboration and partnership issues. He taught Leisure Sciences at Concordia University. He was responsible for the Facilitator Professional Development Programme at the Canada School of Public Service. Finally, he is a Senior Research Officer at the End-of-Life Care Unit, in the Programme and Policy Branch, at Health Canada.

Elsa-Karine Harchaoui est infirmière en soins critiques à l’hôpital Montfort et étudiante à l’École des sciences infirmières de l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle est représentante des étudiant.e.s au sein de l’Unité.

Elsa-Karine Harchaoui is a critical care nurse at Hôpital Montfort and student in the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa. She is the student representative in the Unit.

Susanne Commend est chercheuse postdoctorale à l’Institut d’études féministes et de genre de l’Université d’Ottawa. Ses travaux portent sur l’histoire de la prise en charge des enfants handicapés au Québec au XXe siècle.

Susan Lamb est professeure adjointe au Département d’innovation en éducation médicale de l’Université d’Ottawa et titulaire de la Chaire Jason A. Hannah d’histoire de la médecine.

Membres fondatrices / Founding Members

Meryn Stuart, professeure maintenant retraitée de l’École des sciences infirmières, a été la fondatrice et  la première directrice de l’Unité de recherche sur l’histoire des soins infirmiers (2005-2009). Historienne féministe, spécialiste de l’histoire sociale, ses recherches étaient consacrées à la formation des infirmières, aux soins infirmiers en santé publique en Ontario et aux infirmières militaires canadiennes de la  Première Guerre mondiale. Dre Stuart a également œuvré en tant qu’infirmière en santé publique dans le sud-ouest de l’Ontario et à Ottawa-Carleton et a été l’une des 100 infirmières honorés du Prix du centenaire, créé en 2008, lors des célébrations du centenaire de l’Association canadienne des infirmières et infirmiers en hommage aux infirmières exceptionnelles dont le travail a eu un impact positif sur la profession infirmière.

Meryn Stuart was Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and the first Director of the Nursing History Research Unit (2005 – 2009). She is a former public health nurse who worked in southwestern Ontario and in Ottawa-Carleton. Dr Stuart is a feminist social historian whose primary research areas are in public health nursing in Ontario, nursing education, and First World War military nursing. She was one of 100 nurses recognized with a Centennial Award, created for the centennial celebrations of the Canadian Nurses Association in 2008 to honour exceptional registered nurses whose work has had a positive impact on the nursing profession.

Cynthia Toman est professeure retraitée de l’École des sciences infirmières de l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle a notamment travaillé sur les infirmières en temps de guerre.

Cynthia Toman is a retired associate professor from the School of Nursing of the University of Ottawa. Her research focused on the history of First and Second World War nurses.
