Qui sommes-nous ?/ Who are we?

L’URHN est une unité de recherche bilingue et multidisciplinaire qui mène des travaux de recherche universitaire et diffuse les résultats axés sur l’histoire du nursing et de la santé.

The NHRU is a bilingual, multidisciplinary research unit focused on conducting and disseminating academic research related to the history of nursing and health.

Histoire/History

L’Unité de recherche a ouvert ses portes en juin 2005 et a reçu jusqu’en 2010 le soutien financier de l’Associated Medical Services et de l’Université d’Ottawa. Il s’agit de la première unité de recherche subventionnée au Canada qui se consacre à l’histoire des soins infirmiers et elle fait partie d’un réseau international d’unités de recherche, en Australie, en Grande-Bretagne et aux États-Unis, spécialisé en histoire des soins infirmiers.

The Unit was created in June 2005 and was, until 2010, financed by both Associated Medical services and the Unversity of Ottawa. It is the first funded research unit in Canada entirely dedicated to history of nursing and it is part of an international network of research units specializing in nursing history, in Australia, UK and US.

Buts/Aims

L’Unité de recherche entend :

  • Former des universitaires en histoire des sciences infirmières aux niveaux des trois cycles ainsi qu’aux études postdoctorales.
  • Publier de nouvelles recherches sur l’histoire des infirmières et des infirmiers.
  • Créer des liens entre les universitaires francophones et anglophones par l’entremise de projets de recherche conjoints et le parrainage de congrès et de colloques nationaux.
  • Promouvoir l’histoire dans les programmes d’enseignement des écoles de sciences infirmières à l’échelle du pays.
  • Initier des projets de recherches interdisciplinaires et interprofessionnelles sur l’histoire de la santé.
  • Soutenir la préservation des sources primaires sur l’histoire des infirmières et des  infirmiers.
  • Maintenir des liens avec les unités internationales d’histoire des soins infirmiers.

The Unit aims to

  • To train students in nursing history at all academics levels, including postdoctoral.
  • Publish new research on history of nursing and nurses.
  • Create links between francophone and anglophone academics through research projects and sponsorship of national workshops and conferences.
  • Promote history in nursing schools’ training programs accross Canada.
  • Initiate interdiscplinary and interprofesionnal research projects about history of health.
  • Support preservation of primary sources on history of nursing and nurses.
  • Maintain links with international nursing history research units.
